李阳是疯狂英语的创始人，他的书里有美国英语的发音宝典，也就是表音密码。发音宝典是美国英语的发音规则，美国英语的最大特点，是拼写和发音一致。如brother，拼写时有一个字母r，所以它就要把这个字母r的发音念出来，又如fast，这是一个重读闭音节字，所以字母a要念它的短音。又如clerk，美国英语就按重读r音节中的er的发音规则来念，还要注意卷舌。再如美国英语把剧院这个字写成theater，而不是theatre，是因为它原来的拼写与发音不一致。

基本概念：元音和辅音。美国英语中有26个字母，其中a、e、i、o、u为元音字母，其余21个是辅音字母，其中w和y字母有时当元音字母用，它们是半元音字母，如：crwth 克鲁斯琴，my 我的。

元音字母在单字里，主要有两种读音，一种是长元音，一种叫短元音。辅音字母r具有特殊性质，因为它发卷舌音，所以，它出现在元音字母后面的时候，这个元音字母就要发成卷舌长元音。
